What can Play Therapy support?
You might be noticing..
- Your child is feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and withdrawn
- Grieving or traumatic experiences
- Big emotions that are hard to manage
- Changes at home or school impacting your child
- Challenges with confidence, behaviour, or relationships.
Child-Centered Play Therapy
A non-directive and child-led approach that focuses on the child’s emotional world. Allowing children to express emotions, process experiences through play, and develop confidence and resilience in their own time.
This approach forms the foundation of my work, and, where appropriate and in the best interests of the child,
I may draw on other approaches to support the child’s individual needs.
“Play is the mediator of the invisible and visible. ” Dora M. Kalff
Learn to Play Therapy
A more directive approach that supports children in developing pretend play skills, particularly helpful for children who may find imaginative play or joining peers in play challenging.
Child-Parent Relationship Therapy
A parent-coaching approach in which parents and caregivers learn skills to facilitate special play sessions with their child. This strengthens the parent-child relationship and helps parents better understand their child’s emotional world.
Parent Review Sessions
Regular parent review sessions are an important part of the therapeutic process. These meetings provide the opportunity to:
- Reflect on themes emerging in your child’s play
- Review progress
- Adjust the therapeutic plan where needed
- Support parents with understanding their child’s emotional world
NDIS
Self-managed and plan-managed participants are welcome. Families are encouraged to check with their plan manager to confirm whether play therapy can be funded under their individual plan, as funding approval is determined by the NDIS and/or the plan manager.
